There are many collaborations in the works. One of these is a project I'm working on with musician/producer mapmap (aka Marcus Fischer). You can find his very productive and informative site here: Dust Breeding
We have been trading Ableton Live files and have easily found a common ground regarding our styles and approach towards what we do. I have been very excited to work with such a talented, like minded musician such as Marcus. This project will be released sometime early next year.
Here are some examples of our current collaborations which we are still working on. The links are to mapmap's personal blog.
A remix I did for Lunar Testing Lab has just been released on I, Absentee. The album "Lunar Testing Lab - The Twilight Fires: Volume Three" can be previewed/purchased at: http://www.i-absentee.com/IA023.html
Third installment of The Twilight Fires, featuring remixes from Ten And Tracer (U-Cover), Maps And Diagrams (Moamoo, Awkward Silence), Drexon Field (Attack 9), Boreal Network (Moodgadget), offthesky (Databloem, Somnia) and more.
After finishing up my ambient release "Mystic valley parkway", I had many new ideas as to how I would approach my next ambient project. One of those things was experimenting with using my A.R.T. tube amp & mics such as my AKG, sure m57/58, as well as some cheap phantom powered mics. Using all this equipment I began to capture music improvs around the house, including things like playing an electric guitar into an elaborate fx chain, then into a small smokey amp placed far away up a set of wooden stairs with natural echo/reverb. Some takes were done while the end of the dishwasher cycle was running, creating a soft, almost windy kind of atmosphere. Also recorded were long piano improvs that were then loaded into samplers for playing fragments of the original pieces, creating entirely new songs out of the improvs while keeping the original surrounding noises/nuances.
I began this project at the end of fall 2008 and finished it up right around spring 2009. Many of the sounds were captured from mini-disk recordings from those times such as a cold Halloween night, a freezing blizzard that blew cold wind into my house, to the song birds coming back to a sill frozen area in the spring.
While working on my new Drexon Field album, I have also been hard at work on many remix projects as well. One of them is for the very talented Electricwest for his release "MOTH3R". The album, as well as remixes by Drexon Field and many others, is now available as a free mp3/flac download over at Archaic Horizon Records: http://www.archaichorizon.com/releases/ah033/ah033.html
Here is the info from the Archaic Horizon Records website:
After a three track sampler and a pay per download release on Rope Swing Cities, AH is re-releasing Electricwest's 'MOTH3R' along with a bonus album. 'R3MIXES' reinterprets the album's 11 songs through 11 different artists, including Electricwest himself. It features a mix of ambient drones to start the album off, flowing gradually into more beat-oriented, dub and idm.
'MOTH3R' stands strong on its own, with Electricwest's familiar rumbling bass and haunting tones invigorated from their own distortions. Disembodied voices become embedded within the dissonance and unearthed in the melodies. The album confronts listeners with a polarity between dark, anxious and crawling sonics against more calm and optimistic moments.
Extended thanks to all artist involved in 'R3MIXES' and to those who purchased 'MOTH3R' upon its original release.
Went out for a 6 hour wandering/field recording/photo taking/relaxing adventure. It was beautiful outside. I'll be sharing more of the sounds recorded, but for now here are a few of the photos taken. Enjoy. :)
Went out to take photos on a freezing cold night. Can't go wrong with starting the photo session with 2 hours of good food & drink. it truly helps one forget about how cold it is outside while taking pictures.
